Malayalam actor Jayasurya has broken his silence on the sexual assault allegations. In the wake of the Hema Committee Report, actor Minu Muneer and another actress have accused the actor of sexual harassment and verbal abuse.
On Saturday (Aug 31), Jayasurya chose to respond to all the serious allegations. Sharing a statement on his 46th birthday, the actor said that these allegations have shattered him and his family.
The actor also revealed that he’s currently in America for some personal commitments.
Jayasurya wrote, “To all of you who have wished me on my birthday today, to all of you who are extending your support and standing by me, thank you. Due to my personal commitments, my family and I have been in America for the past month and during this time, two false allegations on the grounds of sexual harassment were made against me. Quite naturally, it has shattered me, my family and everyone who has held me close (sic).”
The actor further said that his legal team will look after all the proceedings on the false allegations made against him.
Saying that facing a false accusation of harassment is just as painful as harassment itself, he added, “I have decided to move forward with this legally. My legal team will be looking after the rest of the proceedings regarding this case. False allegations are easy to make for anyone who lacks conscience. I only hope one realises that facing a false accusation of harassment is just as painful as harassment itself. A lie always travels faster than the truth, but I believe truth will prevail (sic).”
Concluding his statement, the actor said that he would return to India soon.
Sexual Assault Cases Against Jayasurya
Ever since the Hema Committee Report, several actresses have come forward, sharing their heart-wrenching experience of facing sexual assault, harassment and molestation by co-stars or male co-workers. One of the big names that emerged in the wake of the Hema Committee Report was Jayasurya.
Actress Minu Muneer has accused actors M Mukesh, Jayasurya, Maniyanpilla Raju, and Idavela Babu of verbal and physical abuse. Sonia Malhar is the second actress to accuse actor Jayasurya of sexual harassment at a shooting location.
After the allegations, an FIR has been registered against the actor. Kerala Police informed Desk, “Second FIR registered against actor Jayasurya under 354, 354A(A1)(I) 354D IPC. The case was registered after the complainant’s statement was recorded. FIR has been registered in Thiruvananthapuram and will be transferred to Thodupuzha Police Station.”
