New Delhi: The 2025/26 Premier League season starts on August 15 with defending champions Liverpool taking on AFC Bournemouth in the opening match of the tournament. The first weekend will carry extra emotions as the clubs are set to pay tributes to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who passed away in a car accident last month.
This will be the 34th season of the Premier League and the 127th edition of the top-flight English football. Manchester United have won most Premier League titles (13), with their last coming in 2012/13 – Sir Alex Ferguson’s last campaign in charge.
Since the League started in 1992, there have been seven different winners in total, with Manchester United joined by Arsenal (3), Chelsea (5), Manchester City (8), Blackburn Rovers (1), Leicester City (1) and Liverpool (2).

The complete list of fixtures for the 2025-26 season of the English Premier League was announced on June 18. The new season will start on August 15 with reigning champions Liverpool facing Bournemouth at Anfield in the opener. Manchester United will host Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in their opening game of the season at Old Trafford, while Manchester City will face Wolverhampton Wanderers in their season opener.
A total of 380 matches will be played in 38 match weeks, with the season ending on May 24, 2026. The new season is also set to witness the implementation of the semi-automated offside technology.

Leeds United, Burnley and Sunderland are promoted to the Premier League 2025/26 season. Leeds clinched the Championship title with 100 points and secured their return to the Premier League after two years. Sunderland grabbed the final spot and secured their return to the Premier League after an eight-year absence, defeating Sheffield United 2-1 in a dramatic playoff final.

In the 2024–25 season, every club received a central commercial payment of £7.9 million. In addition to this, they also received equal shares of broadcast revenue, with £29.8 million coming from domestic TV rights and a further £59.2 million from international rights.
Liverpool received a total prize money of £174.9m for winning the Premier League in 2024-25. They got £53.1 million in basic merit payments last season, along with an additional £24.9 million in facility fees. In contrast, last-placed Southampton earned just £2.6 million in merit payments and £9.7 million in facility fees.
