Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Ramayan’ can create a new history by breaking the record of ‘Dhurandhar’ at the box office. Trade experts have made this claim on the basis of not just one but many things.
Ranveer Singh vs Ranbir Kapoor: Aditya Dhar’s film franchise ‘Dhurandhar’ performed brilliantly at the box office and completed its theatrical run with earnings of over Rs 3,300 crore worldwide. This action film starring Ranveer Singh in the lead role has become one of the highest grossing films of Indian cinema and currently only Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ is ahead of it. Although the record of ‘Dhurandhar’ still stands, trade analyst and exhibitor Vishesh Chauhan believes that Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming film ‘Ramayana’ can leave this record behind.
What did trade experts say on the success of ‘Dhurandhar’?
In an interview to Siddharth Kannan, Vishesh Chauhan said that the biggest strength of ‘Dhurandhar’ was its wide commercial appeal, which attracted audiences from every section. He said, “When all kinds of emotions, entertainment and elements of different genres are present in a film, its impact is clearly visible at the box office. The same happened with ‘Dhurandhar’. It is a completely commercial film, which has every spice required for the audience.” According to Chauhan, some people liked the second part of the film less than the first, but according to him the second part was also a great example of classic commercial filmmaking.
Aditya Dhar’s filmmaking praised
Praising director Aditya Dhar, Vishesh Chauhan said that while watching ‘Dhurandhar’, he was reminded of the grand and entertaining films of the old era of Hindi cinema. He said, “The film was absolutely brilliant. While watching it, I felt that it was going to break records. There was such strength in its story and presentation that it was difficult to stop it.” The film reminded him of Rakesh Roshan and Manmohan Desai’s films, where the balance of entertainment and emotions kept the audience completely engaged.
Why can ‘Ramayana’ break the record of ‘Dhurandhar’?
Despite praising the success of ‘Dhurandhar’, Vishesh Chauhan believes that ‘Ramayana’ can create new history at the box office. According to him, this film is based on a subject which is connected with the emotions of crores of people. Apart from this, the starcast and level of production of the film also makes it special. There is already a lot of buzz about the film. Ranbir Kapoor’s looks, actors like Sunny Deol, Yash and a strong director make it bigger. I have no doubt that this film will break records.

Chauhan believes that if the film releases properly and creates an emotional connect with the audience, it can surpass the record of ‘Dhurandhar’. He said, “The scope of this film is very big. People will come to watch it in theaters not only from cities but also from villages. This film can work on a different level.”
Need to learn from ‘Adipurush’
Vishesh Chauhan also mentioned ‘Adipurush’ during this period. According to him, the film got a good opening but failed to connect with the audience emotionally. So I think the possibilities for ‘Ramayana’ are much bigger.” He also said that critics will keep discussing the VFX or other technical aspects of the film, but ultimately the audience’s reaction will be the most important thing.
Starcast and release date of ‘Ramayana’
‘Ramayana’ produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios and DNEG is considered to be one of the most ambitious films of Indian cinema. In the film, Ranbir Kapoor will be seen in the role of Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi will be seen in the role of Mata Sita, Yash Ravana and Sunny Deol will be seen in the role of Hanuman ji.
Mega film with a budget of Rs 4,000 crore
According to reports, ‘Ramayana’ is being made in two parts and its total budget is said to be around Rs 4,000 crore. The first part of the film is scheduled to release around Diwali on 6th November.
