Hanuman Ansh has emerged as one of the most unexpected box-office success stories of 2026. The devotional drama, based on the life of Neem Karoli Baba – tracing his journey from childhood to his adult years – began its theatrical journey on August 7 with virtually no buzz, opening to just Rs 10 lakh. Yet, within a few weeks, the film has managed to transform its fortunes dramatically, proving the power of audience word-of-mouth. Written and directed by Vishal Chaturvedi, Hanuman Ansh stars Shobhinab Satyaa in the titular role along with Chandan Anand as Dr Ram Nandan Bhosle. The two are backed by Nikhil Dubey, Udaysinh Rajput, Purnima Tiwari, and Mannish Chaudhary among others.
The film’s first two weeks offered little indication of what was to come. According to reported box-office figures, earned around Rs 1.08 crore in its opening week and added approximately Rs 40 lakh in its second week, taking its 14-day India net total to just Rs 1.48 crore. At that stage, the film appeared destined for a short theatrical run.
However, the turnaround began around its third week. Positive audience reactions and recommendations on social media gradually brought more viewers to theatres. The film reportedly collected Rs 10.40 crore during its third week, a remarkable jump compared with its first two weeks combined. This resurgence established Hanuman Ansh as a genuine sleeper hit rather than a conventional opening-weekend success.
The fourth week took the phenomenon even further. On its fourth Friday, the film recorded its biggest single-day collection of the run, earning an estimated Rs 6.25 crore net, representing a staggering 228 per cent jump from the previous day. Its India net total had reached around Rs 17.70 crore at that point, according to trade estimates.
More recent reports indicate that the film has continued its extraordinary momentum. Hanuman Ansh reached Rs 47.33 crore in India gross after 24 days, putting the film within touching distance of the Rs 50-crore milestone. The numbers become even more impressive when viewed against the film’s reported Rs 2 crore production budget. The modestly mounted film has generated returns many times its initial investment, making its theatrical journey particularly noteworthy.
According to Sacnilk, Hanuman Ansh has collected around Rs 40.13 crore in India net collections in 24 days, against a reported production budget of approximately Rs 2 crore. Based on these figures, the film has generated an estimated Rs 38.13 crore surplus, translating to an impressive 1,906.5 per cent return over its reported budget. In other words, its India net collection is roughly 20 times the production cost, making Hanuman Ansh one of the biggest sleeper successes of 2026.
What makes Hanuman Ansh different is that its success was not driven by a major star, an enormous marketing campaign or a massive opening. Instead, the film appears to have relied on its subject, audience connect and increasingly strong word-of-mouth. Its story of Neem Karoli Baba found an audience gradually, with viewers effectively becoming the film’s promoters.
