Who was Kakabhushundi?

In religious texts, Kakabhushundi has been described as one of the great devotees of Lord Shri Ram. A detailed description about these is found in Uttarkand of Ramcharitmanas. In which it is written that he was an immortal sage, who had taken the form of a crow (Kak), hence his name was Kakabhushundi. Kakabhushundi was extremely knowledgeable, he had knowledge of many Kalpas and Yugas. It was he who narrated the glory of Shri Ram and the story of Ram to Garuda, the vehicle of Lord Vishnu.

How did a crow become Kakabhushundi from a learned Brahmin?

According to the popular story, Kakabhushundi was a learned Brahmin in his previous birth. He was a great devotee of Lord Shiva, but he had great pride in his knowledge and penance. Once the Guru was explaining to him about devotion to Lord Vishnu and Shri Ram but he did not pay attention to those things. Due to the disrespect and arrogance of the Guru, Mahadev cursed him to be born in the womb of a crow. After becoming a crow, he kept remembering the name of Shri Ram continuously. Due to which he attained divine knowledge. Later Mahadev blessed him with immortality.
