Nirjala Ekadashi 2026: 24 Ekadashi fasts are observed in a year and 26 during Adhikamas, but the biggest Ekadashi of the year is considered to be Nirjala Ekadashi. This Ekadashi is considered to be the most auspicious among all Ekadashi fasts. There is a religious and mythological belief that this fast was observed by Pandu’s son Bhim himself, so that he could attain the virtue of observing all the Ekadashi fasts. The fast of Nirjala Ekadashi is more difficult than all other Ekadashi fasts. This year the fast of Nirjala Ekadashi will be observed on 25th June i.e. tomorrow. Nirjala Ekadashi fast is observed without consuming water.

It is believed that by completing this fast, one gets the virtuous results of all other Ekadashi fasts. Also, by the special grace of Lord Vishnu, after death one attains salvation and a place in Vaikuntha Dham. However, if the devotee does not break the fast, his fast is not considered successful, hence the fast is broken on the next day i.e. on Dwadashi Tithi. While doing Parana, it is advisable to pay special attention to the period of Hari Vasar. Breaking the fast during Hari Vasar is considered completely prohibited. In such a situation, let us know what is Hari Vasar?

What is Hari Vasar?

According to religious belief, the first one-fourth time of Dwadashi Tithi is called Hari Vasar. This is considered to be the time when the fast of Nirjala Ekadashi is not broken even by mistake. If it is said in simple words, then the first six hours of Dwadashi Tithi in the total Tithi of 24 hours are called Hari Vasar.

Why is it taken care of in Parana?

Nirjala Ekadashi is a very virtuous fast, but if Hari Vas is not kept in mind while breaking the fast, then the full results of this fast are not achieved. It is believed that if the fast of Nirjala Ekadashi is broken during Hari Vasar, then the fast becomes ineffective. This is the reason why before breaking this fast it is said to take special care of Hari Vasar.
