What did the government change regarding OPS?
The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW) of the Central Government has made it clear that in some cases, while deciding the eligibility of OPS, importance will be given not to the date of appointment, but to the date of application. This relief is only for special cases related to Compassionate Appointment.
Check your eligibility on Old Pension
- Is your job done on the basis of Compassionate Appointment? That is, you got this job after the death of a family member during service or after retirement on medical grounds.
- Did your family submit their application for this compassionate job on or before 31 December 2003?
- Did you receive your joining letter on or after January 1, 2004, due to delay in government offices or delay in paperwork?
How to know whether you will get OPS or not?
If the answer to these three questions is ‘yes’, then according to the new notification of the government, you will now be removed from NPS and brought under the purview of Old Pension Scheme (OPS). If not, you will not fall into this category.
Who will benefit most?
