Lucknow Fire Tragedy: 29 year old Anamika Samant of West Bengal also died in the fire in Aliganj, Lucknow. The father who came to collect his daughter’s body has expressed his pain.
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh): A family from West Bengal reached Lucknow on Tuesday to collect the body of their 29-year-old daughter Anamika Samant. 15 people, including Anamika, lost their lives in a fire that broke out in a commercial building in Aliganj area. Vishwanath Samant, who lost his daughter, told ANI that Anamika had been working in Lucknow for many years and was a 3D animation artist.

- He said, “She was doing 3D animation work here for three years. We were asked to contact the officer-in-charge from the local police station. We were told that she could not escape the fire and everything was burnt. We have come from Kolkata.”
The father had returned after meeting us a week ago and now he has come to collect the dead body.
- Anamika’s brother Akash told that he had last talked to his sister a day earlier in the morning. Their parents had returned to West Bengal just a week ago after meeting her in Lucknow.

“We used to talk every day, that day the phone went silent.
- Akash said, “She had been in this company for three years. Even before this, she had worked in two-four other companies. She had a total experience of six-seven years.” He also told that Anamika used to work in Chandigarh before coming to Lucknow for better opportunities.
- Akash, standing outside the postmortem house, said, “I used to talk to her every day, the last time was yesterday morning. Since then she is not picking up the phone. Who knew that along with the phone, she too would become silent.
It will take 36 hours for the father to take the body home
- On behalf of the Chief Minister’s Office, ambulance driver Dushyant Tripathi, posted at King George Medical University (KGMU) Hospital, said that arrangements are being made to send the bodies of the victims to their homes. He told ANI that Anamika’s mortal remains will be taken to her ancestral home in West Bengal by road.
- The driver said, “We came here from Barabanki at 6 pm. We have been sent from the CMO office, I have received instructions to take Anamika’s body. We are in constant touch with her family… Her father has reached the airport. A government vehicle has been sent to bring her… The journey to West Bengal will take at least 36 hours… There have been a total of 15 deaths… One more victim is from Bengal and one from Madhya Pradesh.”
15 lives lost in flames
The three-storey building in Aliganj, Lucknow, which caught fire, housed a gaming and animation studio. Most of the 15 people who lost their lives in the fire were students, trainees and employees of the studio.
Yogi government’s action on Lucknow fire
- On the instructions of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, four officers have been suspended in this case with immediate effect. An FIR has been registered at Aliganj police station against six accused and other responsible people under sections 6 and 10 of the Uttar Pradesh Fire Service Act.
- In this case, three accused Ramakrishna Upadhyay, Virendra Prasad Shukla and Tushak Krishna Jaiswal have been arrested and further legal action is underway.
