Longest day 21 June: Every year 21st June is considered special for many reasons. This day is not only famous as International Yoga Day, it also has special significance from astronomical and religious point of view. June 21 is the longest day and shortest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. On this day, a wonderful coincidence of summer solstice occurs, when the Sun reaches its maximum northward position. In Sanatan tradition, Sun is considered a deity, hence this day is considered very auspicious for Sun worship. It is believed that worshiping Sun God with devotion and rituals on this day brings happiness, prosperity and fame.
Why is 21st June special?
According to astronomy, on June 21, the northern part of the Earth is most inclined towards the Sun. For this reason, sunlight remains on the earth for a longer time and the day becomes the longest. This time is also considered important in Indian religious beliefs. It is said that after the summer solstice, the Sun starts moving towards Dakshinayan, which is considered to signal the beginning of the Night of the Gods. Therefore, this time is considered especially fruitful for spiritual practice, charity and sun worship.
Why is Sun God considered special?
In Hindu religion, Sun God is considered the basis of life, energy and health. The glory of the Sun has been described in the Vedas and Puranas. It is believed that by the grace of Sun God, a person gets self-confidence, success, respect and good health. People whose Sun is weak in their horoscope are advised to worship Sun.
Offer prayers to Sun God on the longest day of the year
Today, after taking bath, fill a copper pot with clean water. Put red flowers, Akshat and a little Roli in it and offer Arghya to the Sun God. While offering Arghya, it is considered auspicious to see the Sun through the stream of water. During this, chant the mantra Om Suryay Namah or Om Ghrini Suryay Namah.
Recite Aditya Hridaya Stotra
To please the Sun God, recitation of Aditya Hridaya Stotra is considered very effective. According to religious belief, Lord Rama also recited this stotra to achieve victory in the war. Reciting it with devotion on this day brings positive energy and increases mental strength.
Donate red items
In astrology, Sun is considered to be related to the colors red and copper. Therefore, donating red clothes, jaggery, wheat, copper utensils or red fruits on this day is considered auspicious. By helping needy people, one gets the blessings of Sun God and the obstacles in life are reduced.
Do this small solution
If you are not able to give time to any particular puja, then offer water to the Sun in the morning and chant the mantra Om Ghrini Suryay Namah at least 11 times. It is believed that this simple remedy also helps in getting the blessings of Sun God.
