From which door does God come out in the Rath Yatra?
Shri Jagannath Temple of Puri has four main entrances, known as Singh Dwar, Ashwadwar, Vyaghra Dwar and Hasti Dwar. Of these, Singh Dwar is considered to be the main entrance of the temple and it is situated towards the east.
On the day of Rath Yatra, Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra come out of the temple and reach their chariots. According to religious tradition, this grand Pahandi Yatra ends from Singh Dwar only. That is, Lord Jagannath and his brothers and sisters mainly come out of Singhdwar during the Rath Yatra and from here their journey starts towards Gundicha temple.
What is the importance of Singh Dwar?
Singh Dwar is considered to be the most important and sacred gate of Shri Mandir. The famous Arun Pillar is situated in front of this gate, which is a center of special faith for the devotees. There are figures of lions on the lion gate, which is considered a symbol of strength, courage and protection of religion. It is believed that most of the devotees entering the temple enter through this gate for darshan. This gate also plays the most important role during the Rath Yatra.
The four gates of Sri Mandir and their importance
In the Shrimandir of Puri, four grand gates have been built in four directions, which have their own religious and cultural significance.
lion gate
This is the main entrance of the temple. It is considered a symbol of religion and power. During the Rath Yatra the Lord comes out from this gate.
horse gate
There are figures of horses made on the Ashwadwar. It is considered a symbol of bravery, speed and action. This gate also has religious significance, but the main process of Rath Yatra does not take place through it.
tiger gate
The tiger gate is considered a symbol of bravery and spiritual power. This door is associated with courage and self-confidence.
celebrity door
This gate with figures of elephants is considered a symbol of prosperity, stability and splendor.
