A 23-year-old woman died suspiciously three months after her marriage in Etawah. The family has accused the in-laws of murder. The police have detained the father-in-law, while the husband and mother-in-law are absconding and the investigation is ongoing.

After this incident, the girl’s family members have made serious allegations of murder against her husband and in-laws. Police have started investigating the case and have taken the woman’s father-in-law into custody, while her husband and mother-in-law are said to be absconding.
The woman was brought unconscious to the hospital
The name of the deceased woman is Mona Shankhwar, who was a resident of Jaitpur Kala in Agra district. According to a report, she was married to Sachin Shankhwar, a resident of Lodhi Mohalla, Etawah, on March 10, 2026. According to the police, on Tuesday evening Mona’s in-laws brought her to the district hospital in an unconscious state. He claimed that Mona had committed suicide by hanging herself. However, doctors declared him dead after investigation. Medical officials have confirmed that marks have been found on Mona’s neck. The real cause of death will be known only after examining the postmortem report.
The family accused the in-laws of murder
Mona’s parents and relatives reached the hospital as soon as the news of their daughter’s death was received. He accused Mona’s husband and in-laws of murdering her and made the incident look like a suicide. After these allegations, there was a fierce altercation between the two families inside the hospital. When the situation became tense, police teams from Civil Lines and Kotwali police stations reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
Brother made serious allegations
Mona’s brother Shivam alleged that his sister was being continuously harassed since her marriage. She claimed that her brother-in-law did not do any work and stayed at home, while her mother-in-law often misbehaved with Mona. Shivam also alleged that Mona’s body was hanged after she was murdered and claimed that her in-laws did not even inform him about her death.
Police started investigation
Following the family’s complaint, the police have taken Mona’s father-in-law into custody for questioning. At the same time, teams have been formed to trace her absconding husband and mother-in-law. Police said that the body has been handed over to the family after postmortem. Officials said the investigation is ongoing and further legal action will depend on the results of the postmortem report and other evidence collected during the investigation.
