This was the 114th match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 competition, which was being played between Canada and Netherlands. In this match, Netherlands won the toss and decided to bat first. Netherlands lost the wicket of Max O’Dowd in the very second over, who returned to the pavilion without opening the account. After this, the next two overs were bowled in the Netherlands’ innings, in which the danger present on the pitch completely attracted the attention of the umpire and referee. He found that the pitch has uneven bounce, which can prove fatal for the batsmen. The result was that as soon as the 5th over of Netherlands’ innings started, they stopped the match and canceled it. Only 4.1 overs could be bowled in the Canada-Netherlands ODI.
What did the match referee say on the condition of the pitch?
Canada-Netherlands match referee Phil Thompson said that the quality of the pitch was much worse than the level of international cricket. He further said that the captains of both the teams expressed disappointment after seeing the condition of the pitch, after which the match officials examined it and declared it very bad.
