Heeramandi Exclusive: Called to sing in 'Heeramandi', Bhansali changed his fate in this way

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web series ‘Hiramandi’ has been released on Netflix. In this series we get to see many wonderful dance performances like ‘Sakal Ban’. The special thing about these dance performances is their unmatched choreography. Famous Kathak dancer Vijayashree Choudhary has choreographed some dance performances of ‘Hiramandi’. In an exclusive conversation with TV9 Hindi Digital, Vijayashree shared her experience of working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali along with her thoughts about the growing ‘Western dance culture’ in the country these days.

‘Hiramandi’ is Vijayashree Chaudhary’s first project with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. He said, “Actually, there is a part of Kathak lyrics in Hiramandi, which is going very viral. I have read it. So initially I was called in this connection. Then I got a call from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s office. He told me that sir has called me on the set, and after going there I came to know that I have to choreograph these songs also. If we talk about ‘Sakal Ban’, this song is very old, but Sanjay ji also wanted a glimpse of Bollywood in this song. And also the sweetness of classical. We have done this choreography with 70-80 dancers. And the way she moves in the dance, you won’t see a single mistake.”

It takes 10-15 years of practice for classical dance.

During this Vijayashree Chaudhary He also talked about the increasing attraction of the young generation towards western dance culture. He said, “Our Indian art is being liked all over the world. Sanjay Leela Bhansali ji has always known the importance of classical dance. The way he has presented Kathak on the big screen in his films, I would say that he has given a new dimension to this dance style. Because common people also understand his vision. And this is also the specialty of his famous songs that people are able to connect with this music. But the classical dance that we see in Hiramandi takes 10-15 years of practice to learn. And then you reach your destination.”

People have to learn 40 second dance

Choreographer Vijayashree Choudhary further said, “Today’s generation is of 2 minute noodles. He wants to learn dance for the reel. All they want is to dance for 40 seconds. But while learning classical dance, you need to meditate, you have to practice. Only after this penance do you succeed in creating your own identity. Our country is full of culture and prosperity. Therefore, if this generation also shows interest in it, then this heritage will continue to grow in this manner.”
