Name: Jahaaz Mahal
Actually, we are talking about ‘Jahaj Mahal’ located in Mehrauli area. You must have heard a lot about Jahaz Mahal located in Mandu, Madhya Pradesh, but do you know that there is a Jahaz Mahal in Delhi also. However, now it is lost somewhere, being away from the eyes of both the people and the government.
How did Jahaz Mahal get its name?
Jahaz Mahal was built during the Lodi dynasty period around 1452-1526. This palace was built near a lake in Hauz-e-Shamsi i.e. Mehrauli. This Shamsi lake was named Jahaz Mahal. In fact, when the first ray of the sun fell on this palace, its ship-like shadow would rise in the lake, hence it was named Jahaz Mahal.
hosted foreign guests
This palace was built to accommodate a large number of pilgrims from Afghanistan-Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Morocco and Turkey. This is because during the period of Lodi dynasty, many Muslim pilgrims used to come to Delhi.
