A cloudburst in Dharali village of Uttarkashi at around 1:45 pm caused heavy havoc. Four people have died and more than 50 people are missing. Many houses and hotels are buried in debris. The administration has immediately started relief work.

Local people said that the debris from the mountain took away hotels, shops and houses as soon as the clouds burst. The flow of water and rocks was so fast that people could not even manage.

The Indian Army immediately started relief work in this village just 4 km from Harshil camp. So far 15-20 people have been evacuated, the injured are being given treatment at the army’s medical center.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to the Uttarakhand government and inquired about the relief work. He has assured all possible help and said that every life is being cared for.

Gangotri Dham’s contact with the district headquarters has been completely cut after cloudburst in Dharali. Heavy rains and debris have blocked the paths, which has increased the concern of the devotees who have gone on the Chardham Yatra.

Locals are calling it a tragedy of floods of 1978 and 2013. Experts believe that the incident may be a sign of deteriorating meteorological balance and climate change in the Himalayan region. There is an appeal to the people to stay away from rumors and use these numbers only on need.
