Pleased with the girl’s spirit of service, the Mahatma blessed her. Then the Brahmin put before him the concern of his daughter’s marriage. The Mahatma examined the girl’s palmistry and told that her chances of marriage seemed weak. Hearing this, the Brahmin and his wife became very sad and started asking for a solution.
The Mahatma said that a devoted washerwoman named Sona lives in a nearby village. The effect of his virtue and chastity is very great. If he becomes happy and gives the vermilion of his demand to this girl, then all the obstacles coming in his marriage can be removed. Saying this the Mahatma left from there.
After listening to the Mahatma, the Brahmin girl herself reached the gold washerman’s house. She quietly started helping him in his household chores every day. After some time, Sona the washerwoman wanted to know the reason for her service and dedication. He asked the girl about her wish. Then the girl told everything about her marriage problem and the solution suggested by the Mahatma.
Coincidentally that day was Somvati Amavasya. Sona the washerman took the girl along with her and reached her house and filled the girl’s demand with her vermillion. This made it possible for the girl to get married and her parents were very happy. But due to the impact of this virtuous act, the life of the gold washerman’s husband was in danger.
When Sona the washerman was returning, she saw a Peepal tree on the way. He circumambulated the Peepal tree 108 times with devotion and faith and observed the Somvati Amavasya fast with full rituals. Due to the effect of her fast and virtue, her husband regained life. Since then, it is believed that those women and devotees who observe fast on Somvati Amavasya and worship and circumambulate the Peepal tree, their lives remain filled with happiness, good fortune, prosperity and family happiness.
