Somvati Amavasya Deepdan Significance: Somvati Amavasya is considered to have special significance in Hindu religion. When Amavasya Tithi falls on Monday, it is called Somvati Amavasya. On this day, special results are obtained from bathing, charity, chanting, penance, offering to ancestors and worshiping Lord Shiva. According to religious beliefs, donating a lamp in the evening on this day is considered very auspicious. It is said that this brings blessings of ancestors, brings happiness and prosperity in the house and removes negativity from life.
Why is evening lamp donation considered special?
In Hindu tradition, lamp is considered a symbol of light, knowledge and positive energy. Amavasya night is a symbol of darkness, hence by lighting lamps on this day the message of victory of light over darkness is given.
