Sri Lanka beat Sri Lanka, 2nd T20I: Sri Lanka has won the second T20I against West Indies. This match between the two teams was played in Kingston, which Sri Lanka won by 37 runs and leveled the 3-match T20 series 1-1. The hero of Sri Lanka’s victory in the second T20 was Dasun Shanaka, who not only got the Sri Lankan team out of trouble during the match but also took the team to that score due to his fast-paced innings, due to which the West Indies team was all out before it could be crossed.
Dasun Shanaka bails out Sri Lanka
West Indies won the toss and gave Sri Lanka the chance to bat first. This move of Caribbean captain Shay Hope may have worked when the Sri Lankan team had lost its 4 wickets for just 88 runs. But, what happened after that was truly a game changer. After the fall of 4 wickets, Dasun Shanaka stepped on the crease and along with Kamil Mishara created such a sensation with the bat that the score board gained momentum.
Scored 103 runs in 42 balls with Mishara
Dasun Shanaka and Kamil Mishara made a partnership of 103 runs in just 42 balls for the 5th wicket. In this, Kamil Mishara scored 42 runs in 18 balls while Dasun Shanaka scored 58 runs in 24 balls. This partnership broke due to the dismissal of Dasun Shanaka.
Shanaka equaled her own record
Shanaka scored 58 runs in 24 balls with the help of 4 sixes and 5 fours at a strike rate of 241.66. During this, he completed his half-century in just 19 balls, which is equal to the Sri Lankan record of the fastest fifty in T20 International. Even before this, the Sri Lankan record of fastest fifty was of Shanaka, which came in 19 balls only.
West Indies bowed before the target of 195 runs.
The 103-run partnership between Dasun Shanaka and Kamil Mishara in 42 balls took Sri Lanka’s score to 194 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs. West Indies had a target of 195 runs. But due to the havoc of the Sri Lankan bowlers, they could not even play the full 20 overs, leave alone achieving this target. West Indies team was all out after scoring 157 runs in 18.1 overs and lost the match by 37 runs.
The winner of the third T20 will take the trophy
Earlier, West Indies had won the first T20 and now Sri Lanka has made the third and last match exciting by winning the second T20. The third and last T20 between the two teams is to be played in Kingston on June 15.
