New Delhi: Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has announced that he has made his mind to leave the Premier League side after a 10-year spell.
Son led Spurs to end a 17-year long trophy drought as they defeated the fellow PL side Manchester United in the final of the UEFA Europa League in the 2024/25 season.
The 33-year-old at a press conference ahead of Spurs’ pre-season friendly against Newcastle United in Seoul, said, “I have asked to leave Spurs.” He further explained his decision, saying, “I did my best here, and I need a fresh challenge now.”

He joined the North London club from Bayern Leverkusen in 2015. Son has made 454 appearances for Spurs and netted 173 goals. He also won the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2021-2022 season.
He is one of the most influential Asian sportsmen, is widely regarded as one of the most decorated athletes and is appreciated for his nature as a human for his incredible abilities on the ball. The match against Newcastle United on Sunday, August 3 could be his last in a Spurs jersey.

Son Heung-min’s next move is already generating plenty of buzz. According to reports, the South Korean star is set to join Los Angeles FC in Major League Soccer. LAFC have emerged as the frontrunners to sign the Tottenham captain to boost both their squad and global appeal.
