South African veteran bowler Dale Steyn has praised young Indian batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Steyn said that Vaibhav has the potential to become a bigger player than Sachin and Kohli and he is a ‘treasure of Indian cricket’.Dale Steyn has described Vaibhav Suryavanshi as a ‘precious treasure of Indian cricket’ and one of the most talented players he has seen. He said that Vaibhav can achieve more success than Sachin and Virat.
15-year-old left-handed batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi won the ‘Orange Cap’ by scoring 776 runs in IPL 2026. After this brilliant performance, he also got a place in India’s T20I team for the tour of Ireland and England.
In a conversation before the 5th season of the SA20 tournament, Steyn said, ‘We think about players like Sachin and Virat, but this kid is going to explode in the world of cricket. By the end of his career, he will be a bigger player than both of them.’
Steyn said that there is no such ‘wonderkid’ of 14 or 15 years in South Africa at present. He said, ‘We have no dearth of talent, but Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s class is different. He bats better than many international players of the present era.’
Stein warned BCCI that handling this young player will be a big challenge. He said, ‘If he is not handled properly, we may lose a brilliant player in the middle.’
According to the 42-year-old former fast bowler, Vaibhav’s biggest strength is his ball-striking ability. Steyn said, ‘He hits the ball brilliantly. He has taken advantage of the Indian pitches and small boundaries very well.’
Stein believes that there are still ways to challenge Vaibhav. Referring to Kagiso Rabada’s bowling in the IPL, he said that this young player can be tested with short-pitched balls. Steyn explained, ‘Rabada bowled him well. Vaibhav is still very young (14-15 years). It is important to create an atmosphere of fear in cricket. Bowling bounce and short balls is a good option for the bowlers.
