Hungarian GP: Driver and team standings, when & where to watch qualifying and main race

New Delhi: It has been an interesting season in Formula One as it enters the 14th round this weekend with the Hungarian Grand Prix. Last weekend was yet another dominant performance from the McLaren duo, with Oscar Piastri winning for the first time since the Spanish race this season, and the team finished 1 and 2. At the Hungaroring, Lewis Hamilton comes with the most wins, taking eight races to his name, while McLaren as the constructor have 12 wins to their name.

While it looked like all was in favour of McLaren last weekend, it has also been Ferrari who made some redemption with a podium finish over the weekend from Charles Leclerc. Even Lewis Hamilton, who had qualified 16th in the race, managed to finish seventh in a rain-delayed race. Max Verstappen had looked in good touch during the Sprint, but his Sunday race was far off from how he would have wished it to be.

How drivers and teams stand

It has been a complete dominance from the Papaya team this season, and they have been consistent with their wins and finding themselves on the podium. The battle has been intense between the two drivers as well, while not turning devastating for McLaren so far, to defend their Constructors’ title. They are currently separated by 16 points, with Piastri leading the points table with 266 points so far in the season, while his Briton teammate stands at 250 points. Defending champion Verstappen is at 185 points, standing in third place and on his day looked quite dangerous.

George Russell started the season in a more consistent fashion, getting podiums and even winning the Canadian GP and is a close fourth with 157 points. He is followed by the two Ferrari drivers, with Hamilton now just 30 points behind Charles Leclerc.

For the teams, McLaren’s 516 points in the season are more than double those of the second-placed Ferrari, who have 248 points to their name. The team from Maranello has seen heavy competition from the Mercedes team who have managed to collect 220 points in the season. Standing in the fourth place is the Red Bulls with 192 points from the season. Halfway into the season, they have sacked their two-decade-long serving team principal, Christian Horner, and even made a driver swap with their second team to bring Yuki Tsunoda. Williams have managed to keep themselves in fifth place despite regular disappointments.

With another four weeks intervening between now and the Dutch GP, home race for Verstappen, all teams would like to go on a positive note.
