Abhay Jodhpurkar has multiple reasons to celebrate in 2026. After winning the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer, he has given his voice to Ranbir Kapoor in Ramayana. The film’s music has been curated by A R Rahman and Hans Zimmer. Recently, the romantic song titled Mangal Rang premiered. Abhay has sung its Tamil version, titled Mangala Vanname, with Saindhavi. In an exclusive interview with Zoom, the singer explained how the soundscape of Ramayana caters to a global audience while staying deeply rooted in Indian culture.
Abhay Jodhpurkar on Ramayana music
Talking to Zoom exclusively following the success of Mangala Vanname, Abhay said the soundscape had to have an international appeal because Ramayana is being presented on a global platform. “The sound is very modern,” he agreed before adding that the international aspects do not disturb the bhajan-like appeal.
According to Abhay, Ramayana’s music ‘is deep rooted in our Indian culture’. “While growing up, we all have heard bhajans. Devotional music is an integral part of our upbringing. AR Rahman sir has also channelled all of that into the melody and the soundtrack,” he said.
Abhay believed that Ramayana’s sound is unique because it has rich roots of both cultures – Eastern and Western origin. “Since we are presenting it on a global scale, we were sure that we’re not losing its origin roots and at the same time portray it in a global language. It sounds modern, but soul is Indian,” he shared.

While Abhay and Saindhavi are the singers of the Tamil version, Mangal Rang is sung by Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal. It is picturised on Ranbir Kapoor’s Rama and Sai Pallavi’s Sita.
