In both smoothening and straightening of cosmetic treatments, some chemicals are manually applied to the hair, but the process is quite different. Apart from this, there is a lot of difference in the use of different types of chemicals, their quantity and results. However, after taking both the treatments, your hair looks very shiny, hence sometimes the client gets a little confused between them.
In hair straightening, the natural bond of your hair changes completely, whereas in smoothening, protein formula is used in the hair to bring a slight change in the structure of your hair and make them shiny. So let us know what is the difference between the two.
What is hair straightening?
Just like the name, in hair straightening the hair becomes straight. This removes the natural bond of your hair, which means even if you have bouncy hair, it will appear completely straight. Because of this, the length of the hair starts appearing a little longer.
Understand straightening in these points
- The primary goal is to make the curls and bounce of the hair completely uniform and sleek.
- Strong chemicals are used in this, which permanently break the structure and natural bonds of the hair.
- Permanently treated hair remains straight until new hair grows. Usually it lasts for 6 to 12 months.
- It uses intense chemicals and heat, so there is a high risk of hair damage.
Straightening And Hair Smoothening
hair smoothening
Keratin based light protein formula is used in hair smoothening, which maintains the natural bounce of the hair. This also increases shine and relaxes the hair structure. In this treatment also chemical (keratin protein) solution is used so that the curls and waves can be smoothed. After this the hair is ironed and processes like shampooing and conditioning are done.
Understand Hair Smoothening
- Hair will reduce frizz, shine will increase and the natural volume will also be maintained to a great extent.
- In this, the hair is filled with protein, so by applying its layer on the cuticle, it makes them temporarily smooth.
- Like straightening, the effect of smoothening also starts to wear off after 3 to 6 months and it needs to be done again.
- The risk of damage is very less in this. Actually this is a kind of conditioning treatment.
What’s right for you?
If your hair is very curly and so dry that it is difficult to style your hair every day, then you can choose hair straightening. However, for this the hair should be healthy enough to survive chemical treatment. For this, you can take advice from experts after showing your hair. If you just want to keep your hair light, natural, shiny and bouncy to avoid frequent tangling, then you should get hair smoothening done.
