Why are obesity cases increasing in India?
National Family Health Survey (NFHS-6) The report has revealed that the men of the capital Delhi are becoming fit. Whereas cases of obesity have increased among women. In this, research has been done on people aged 15 to 49 years. In Delhi, the figure of men with BMI of 25 kilograms per square meter or more was 38 percent in NFHS-5 (2019-21). Now the fitness level has been noticed better as it has reduced to 34.8 percent in the report of 2023-24.
Whereas in women it has increased from 41.4 percent to 42.7 percent. However, cases of obesity have continuously increased in men and women across India.
If we look at the figures of the entire country, it has increased from 22.9 to 27.3 percent among men and from 24 to 30.7 percent among women. In this article, we are going to tell you why this is happening and what things can be reduced by keeping it in mind.
Why is this happening?
The survey says that the difference in obesity figures between men and women is increasing. While the cases of obesity have decreased among the men of Delhi, women are being affected more by it. This indicates that the metabolic rate of the body is continuously deteriorating.

Why are obesity cases increasing in women?
Experts say that if the hormonal balance in women is not correct then it increases fat in the body. Changing lifestyle is also a big reason for this. The trend of professional routine while doing job or business is increasing among women. But the lifestyle is deteriorating due to sitting job in office. Women living at home focus on the health of their families but their own health is played with.
However, most of the women are taking many steps due to the concern of obesity or weight gain. Because they are understanding that obesity increases the risk of diabetes, PMOS (PCOS), infertility and impaired heart health.
Keep these things in mind
- If your routine is a sitting job, then be physically active for 30 minutes daily. The easiest thing is to take a walk for some time.

- Drink as much water as possible throughout the day. Drink plenty of water according to your weight and needs. By the way, everyone should drink 2.5 to 3 liters of water throughout the day.
