Jaguar Land Rover’s big decision in UK, 500 jobs are going to go
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), a British luxury car manufacturer, has announced a trimming of 500 employees in the UK. This step has been taken by the company under the scheme of Voluntary Redundency. The company confirmed in the press conference that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the existing global trade challenges and future business needs.
1.5 percent of the workforce will be affected
Since then, this trimming JLR will affect about 1.5 percent of its total workforce in Britain. The most important thing in this is that this deduction will be focused on the employees of the main management level. A spokesperson of the company said that from time to time we give the option of Valiantry Retirement to qualified employees, this initiative is in line with the company’s current and future targets. Currently, this retrenchment will not be affected in markets outside the UK, such as Australia and other international sectors.
The effect of tariff in the US market
This strategy of the company has come at a time when JLR is facing huge challenges in its biggest global market America. In the beginning of 2025, the US administration suddenly imposed 25 percent tariff on vehicles made in Britain. Due to which the company had to stop the vehicle shipment in North America for a month. Although later this tariff was reduced to 10 percent, the initial shock proved to be quite expensive for the company and due to this, delivery was interrupted.
Decline in global sales
At this time, JLR is facing a huge decline globally. In the first half of 2025, the company has reduced the total delivery of the company to 1,98,69 units worldwide. At the same time, sales in Britain itself recorded a decline of 11.2 percent. A large market like China saw a huge decline of 15.1 percent.
