‘A gloomy cloud’ looms over Tamil cinema
- Khushboo wrote on her X account on Wednesday that she was ‘broken’ by this news. He described Bharathiraja’s demise as ‘a sad cloud’ over Tamil cinema. Remembering one of the most respected filmmakers of the industry, he said that cinema lovers of every generation will miss him.
- He wrote, “It is very sad to know that our most beloved and respected director, the legendary #BharathiRaaja is no more. His passing is a big blow to Tamil cinema.”
Who was Bharathiraja, whom he called ‘school of filmmaking’?
- Khushboo further said that Bharathiraja’s films were the ‘real school of filmmaking’ for new filmmakers. He also shared a personal memory. Khushboo told that Bharathiraja often told her that he wanted to make a film with her, but now this wish will remain unfulfilled.
- Khushboo wrote, “His films have always been a benchmark and will remain the true school of filmmaking. He has left a huge legacy for every cinema lover. He would always say, ‘Let’s do a film with me in 2 Choti Mein.’ This will now remain an unfulfilled dream. Will miss you a lot, sir. Om Shanti.”

- Bharathiraja started his directorial career in 1977 with the film ’16 Vayathinile’. After this he became one of the most influential filmmakers of Tamil cinema. In a career spanning more than four decades, he directed more than 40 films. He received the title of ‘Iyakkunar Immayam’ (Himalaya of Directors) for his brilliant contribution to cinema.
- Some of his most memorable films include ‘Kizhake Pogum Rail,’ ‘Sigappu Rojakkal,’ ‘Alaigal Oivathillai,’ ‘Kaadhal Oviyam’ and ‘Mudhal Mariyathai.’ Many of these films are considered classics today.
