New Delhi: Ben Stokes smashed a sensational hundred to power England to a first innings total of 669 in reply to India’s score of 358 on the fourth day of the Manchester Test match. By virtue of this mammoth score, England not only pocketed a big 331-run lead over the visitors but also registered the highest Test total at Old Trafford.
On back of a superlative show from the batters, the hosts surpassed Australia’s 656/8d made way back in 1964 to register a big milestone. Resuming from their overnight score of 544/7, the English team added 125 more runs to push India against the wall in the crucial Test match. Stokes played a sizzling knock of 141 runs off 198 balls while Brydon Carse also added valuable 47 runs to push England’s lead beyond 300.
