IND A vs SL A: Vaibhav Suryavanshi is currently on Sri Lanka tour with India A. One-day triangular series is being played there, in which apart from India and Sri Lanka A team, the third team is Afghanistan A. On June 9, the first match of the ODI triangular series was played between India A and Sri Lanka A in Dambulla. In this match, India A won by 8 runs. Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s bat did not work in the match but he dominated Sri Lanka by showing his agility in fielding. Vaibhav Suryavanshi caught a catch for the first time after getting a place in Team India.

Vaibhav, who was playing with India A in Sri Lanka, was selected in Team India on 6 June. Apart from the Ireland-England tour, he got a place in the T20 team of the Asian Games. There was no doubt about his batting before his selection in the team. But questions were definitely raised on his fielding and especially his catching ability.

Mohammad Kaif had said during IPL 2026 that he never saw Vaibhav Suryavanshi take any catch. However, only after he said that, Vaibhav had taken 2 catches in IPL 2026 and now after getting a place in Team India, the catch he took against Sri Lanka A in a pressure situation at the Dambulla ground is enough to show that he is an expert not only in destroying the opposition bowlers with the bat but also in changing the course of the match by taking catches.

Sri Lanka A’s opening pair of Nirosham Dickwella and Avishka Fernando, who came to answer India A’s 277 runs, was becoming dangerous. By putting 93 runs on the scoreboard, she was moving towards a century partnership. The pressure on India A was clearly visible. In that pressure-filled situation, Vaibhav took the catch of Avishka Fernando on the ball of Ayush Badoni, who came to bowl as a part-timer, which changed the course of the match. On the 99th ball of Sri Lanka A’s innings, the faster Avishka’s shot came towards Vaibhav, the faster he reacted and caught the catch with both hands. This is his first catch after the selection of Vaibhav Suryavanshi in Team India on 6th June.

In the match in which Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored 14 runs in 12 balls, he not only dominated the Sri Lankan field by taking a brilliant catch but his craze in Sri Lanka was not less seen even outside the field. There was an influx of people taking photographs with Vaibhav Suryavanshi in Sri Lanka. For the fans, being in the photo frame with Vaibhav Suryavanshi had a different meaning compared to the other players of India A.

In the first match of the ODI triangular series in Sri Lanka, Vaibhav’s bat did not play as per his temperament, hence the fans are now waiting for the second match. It is expected that not only runs will be scored there but sixes will also be hit.
