Despite failing in IIT-JEE, one of the toughest exams in India, an Indian techie, who reached Google on the basis of his hard work, has done something similar. He gave such a gift to his single mother, seeing which her happiness knew no bounds. The son got his picture with his mother put on the world’s most famous billboard of Times Square. After this, she showed this surprise to her mother by making a video call. The mother’s joy at seeing her photo behind her son at Times Square was worth seeing.
Mother supported me in every failure
Abhijay Arora, who works at Google in America, made a video call to his mother and asked her to look at the big screen behind him. Within no time a big picture of mother and son started flashing on the billboard. This picture was from Abhijay’s graduation ceremony. There was no limit to the son’s happiness after seeing his mother’s picture on the most famous billboard of the world’s largest city. He told that he does not have a father and his mother has raised him alone. He studied from old books, but mother taught him in the best school. Mother used to stay awake all night and teach them. Sharing his story, Abhijay wrote, “When I failed in IIT in 2012, she cried and so did I. I completed my graduation in 2016 without a campus job. All the business schools rejected me.”
Journey from failure to success
While sharing the video, Abhijay said that this is his way of saying thanks to his mother who stood by him through years of uncertainty and difficulties. He wrote, “It was the most special day of my life, I got my mother’s photo put on a New York Times Square billboard to thank her for all her sacrifices.” Even in America he had to look for a job. His mother and wife supported him in that difficult time. When he was unemployed, his wife helped him financially, while his mother always encouraged him. Ultimately, building an AI resume tool proved to be the turning point for Abhijay.
After this he got admission in Harvard University. In 2025, he joined Google as a product manager for YouTube in San Francisco. He later started a podcast with CEOs of successful AI companies in Silicon Valley. Today he has an online community of more than 600,000 followers.
