Tata could be evaluating larger wheels for the next-generation Nexon, following a similar approach seen during Harrier facelift testing
Tata Motors has been for some time now, with successive sightings revealing changes to its proportions and bodywork. The latest spy shots from Trakin Auto highlight another interesting detail—the prototype is wearing alloy wheels matching those of the Tata Curvv.
The matching design raises the possibility that Tata is evaluating 18-inch wheels for the 2027 Nexon. If introduced, this would represent a notable upgrade over the current model’s 16-inch alloys and give the compact SUV a larger wheel option than several rivals.
Curvv Alloys Spotted On Nexon Test Mule
The latest spy shots show black-and-machined alloy wheels with the same distinctive petal-like pattern seen on the Curvv. Since the Curvv offers this design in an 18-inch size, their appearance on the Nexon prototype suggests a larger wheel setup could be under evaluation.
The tyre sidewall markings are not readable, so the diameter cannot be conclusively established from these photographs alone. However, the matching wheel design provides a strong visual clue. Higher variants would be the likely candidates, while more affordable trims could retain smaller wheels.
Harrier Facelift Followed A Similar Approach
There is a precedent within Tata’s lineup. During development of the Harrier facelift, test vehicles were spotted with the Hexa’s 19-inch alloys. The production Harrier facelift subsequently received a 19-inch wheel option on select variants, with a different design.
That earlier sequence makes the latest Nexon sighting particularly interesting. Tata could be using an existing alloy to test a larger wheel-and-tyre package before finalising the production design. It does not confirm an 18-inch option for the Nexon, but it gives the sighting more significance than a straightforward change in alloy styling.
How It Compares With Rival SUVs
The current Nexon offers 16-inch alloys, a size commonly seen across the . Some rivals have moved to larger wheels on higher variants, including the Mahindra XUV 3XO, Skoda Kylaq and Kia Syros, which offer 17-inch alloys.
An 18-inch option would take the next-generation Nexon a step beyond these models in wheel diameter. Visually, it could also complement the prototype’s more upright stance and prominent wheel arches.
Launch Expected In 2027
showed familiar Nexon components alongside testing equipment and unfinished sections. A clearer picture of the production interior and equipment list should emerge as development progresses.
Petrol, diesel and CNG options are expected to remain part of the broader Nexon offering, with a next-generation EV update also anticipated. Tata has yet to confirm the final specifications or launch schedule.
