Aadhar card update
Updating Aadhaar card can now be overwhelming on your pocket. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced an increase in the fees of Aadhaar -related services. These new fees have come into effect from 1 October 2025 and will be valid till 30 September 2028. After this, the next rate chart will be applicable from 1 October 2028 to 30 September 2031.
UIDAI earlier a fee of Rs 50 or 100 for the services for which it was paid Rs 75 and Rs 125 respectively and not only this, these rates will increase further from the next cycle i.e. 2028.
Which services became expensive?
The updates to be done for the first 50 rupees will now be for 75 rupees. This includes updating demographic information like name, address, mobile number, date of birth. For the first 100 rupees biometric updates (eg fingerprint, iris or photo), you will now have to pay Rs 125. This change will be applicable between 2025 and 2028, but between 2028 and 2031, these services will be increased further.
Biometric update: Who will get benefit?
UIDAI has also given relief to some age groups. Biometric updates of children/teenagers aged 5 to 7 years and 15 to 17 years of age will be free. Apart from this, the charge of biometric updates for 7 to 15 year old children has been waived by 30 September 2026. These steps have been taken to promote updates on time. However, if a person wants to update biometric information at another age, he will have to pay Rs 125 (for 2025-2028) and then Rs 150 (for 2028-2031).
Online updates cheaper, but time limited
If you update the address or other documents online in your Aadhaar through online (MYADHAAR portal), then this service is free till 14 June 2026. But if you get the same update done at the Aadhaar Seva Kendra, then earlier where 50 rupees were to be paid, now you have to pay 75 rupees.
Colorful print and eKYC also expensive now
If you want to take a color copy of Aadhaar or EKYC, now you will have to pay money for this too. Its charge has been fixed at Rs 40 (2025-2028) and then Rs 50 (2028-2031).
Fee fixed for domestic service also
UIDAI has also fixed the fee for domestic base services. If a person wants to update Aadhaar sitting at home, then he will have to pay 700 rupees (including GST) for this. If more people also want to take service in the same house, then every additional person will have a charge of Rs 350. These fees will be different from the normal fees of demographics and biometric updates.
What should you do?
If you are between 7 and 15 years of age, then get a biometric update before 30 September 2026, because it is still free. Make the document update online, as it is free till 14 June 2026.
