Mahindra has now launched the all-new Thar 3-door in India, with prices starting from Rs. 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom). This is the SUV’s second update in under a year, bringing a Roxx-inspired design along with a healthy dose of new features. Here’s everything you need to know.
Mahindra Thar OG Launched: Price
The new Mahindra Thar, now called Thar OG, starts at Rs. 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom). The starting price is identical to the outgoing model, which was priced between Rs. 10.32 lakh and Rs. 17.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV continues to be offered in rear-wheel drive (RWD) and 4×4 configurations across three trims: AXT, LXT, and ZXT (the new top-spec trim).
Mahindra Thar Facelift: Changes
The Thar facelift borrows heavily from its five-door sibling, the Thar Roxx. It gets a revised front fascia with a reworked grille, projector LED headlamps with C-shaped LED DRLs, and a revised bumper. The rear gets a new boxy taillamp that also features C-shaped DRL elements and an updated bumper.
Inside, the layout stays largely familiar, with the 10.24-inch touchscreen infotainment system, physical buttons for control, and circular AC vents. Mahindra has, however, given the cabin a fresher feel with truffle brown leatherette upholstery. On the equipment front, the Thar OG continues with the same semi-digital instrument cluster and offers other features like a reverse parking camera, front parking sensors, a wireless phone charger, automatic climate control, and adventure statistics, among others.
New safety feature additions include six airbags (reserved for the top trim); the other trims continue with dual airbags, improved ESP, and all-four disc brakes (on the top-spec trim only).
One of the key changes seen with the new Thar is the platform upgrade. This three-door off-roader now sits on the 4th-generation M-Glyde platform and also gets the DAVINCI damping technology and rear pentalink suspension setup, which will improve the ride quality and address the basic complaint of Thar owners. It also finally gets electric power steering to improve the driveability.
The engine line-up carries over unchanged from the outgoing Thar, but gets a different tuning. There’s a 1.5-litre diesel engine (with the same tuning, 117 bhp & 300 Nm) and a 2.2-litre diesel engine (now sourced from Thar Roxx, 150 bhp & 330 Nm). The 2.2-litre diesel comes with both the RWD and 4×4, while the 1.5-litre diesel is limited to the RWD version. Rounding out the list is the 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine (sourced from Thar Roxx, 160 bhp & 330 Nm), offered in both RWD and 4×4 versions.
