Indian batter Rohit Sharma has disclosed the comfort food he relied on to manage midnight cravings and nerves during Test matches, a format in which he often felt anxious and struggled to sleep.
Speaking on his television show, ‘Family Full House with Rohit Sharma’, Rohit revealed that the pressure of playing Test cricket, his favourite format, frequently kept him awake at night.
Rohit represented India in 67 Test matches between 2013 and 2024, amassing 4,301 runs at an average of 40.57, with 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries. He announced his retirement from Test cricket last year.
Sharing his experience of nervousness in Tests, Rohit said, “Yes, those cravings used to happen. I would not lie. When I would play Tests, I would feel nervous. It was my favourite format.” He added, “Since Test cricket is not an easy format, so I would always be nervous, and due to that, I would struggle to sleep at night. So I would stay awake at night.”
To cope with his sleeplessness and cravings, Rohit revealed he kept a particular comfort food prepared by his mother. He said, “When you stay awake, then you feel like eating something. So I would keep my comfort food with me, which my mother used to make for me, banana wafers.”
He emphasised that the banana wafers were baked rather than fried, describing them as a comforting snack he would always carry with him during matches. “The snack was not fried, my mother would bake them, and I would keep them with me always, having them whenever I wanted,” he added.
‘Family Full House with Rohit Sharma’ will premiere on Sony Entertainment Television starting Saturday.
