Why did it lag behind in Bandar Box Office Day 1 Collection? Couldn’t Bobby Deol’s strong acting attract the crowd? Or did ‘Bandar’ have to bear the brunt of the tough competition between ‘Peddi’ and ‘Hai Jaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’? Can the weekend save the fate of the film? Were limited screens the biggest reason for the weak opening?
There was a tremendous clash at the box office this weekend, where on one hand Ram Charan’s ‘Peddi’ and Varun Dhawan’s ‘Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ caught the attention of the audience, while Bobby Deol’s crime drama ‘Bandar’ could not live up to the expectations. Although the film is receiving praise from critics and audiences, the earnings on the opening day were very limited. According to trade reports, the film earned so little at the worldwide box office, leave alone India, that it has been included in the list of disaster films on the very first day. However, despite the weak start, hopes are now pinned on weekend growth. Which will decide its fate.
How much did ‘Monkey’ earn on the first day?
‘Bandar’, directed by Anurag Kashyap, got a slower start than expected despite good reviews at the box office. According to trade reports, ‘Bandar’ collected a net of Rs 50 lakh in India on the first day, while its gross earning was Rs 60 lakh. The content of the film may have been strong, but it lagged behind in garnering a commercial crowd. The number of viewers on the opening day was much lower than expectations; the overall occupancy of the film was 12.58 percent. The occupancy of the film in morning, afternoon, evening and night shows was 3.38%, 6.31%, 11.92% and 18.08% respectively.

Why did ‘Monkey’s Game’ fail at the box office?
The simultaneous release of many big films at the box office this weekend completely changed the atmosphere. The audience got divided between different films, due to which Bobby Deol’s crime thriller ‘Bandar’ had to suffer. While on one hand the mass entertainer ‘Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ strengthened its hold in the Hindi belt, on the other hand ‘Peddi’ continued its dominance in the South. In this heavy competition, ‘Bandar’ could not get enough screens and shows, due to which its opening was very weak. Overall the film suffered losses due to three reasons:-
- limited screening
- Big budget entertainers compete
- Multiplex audience distribution

On how many screens was ‘Bandar’ released?
A major reason for the weak start of the film is its limited release. Due to big projects, there was a severe shortage of space in theatres. With big releases like ‘Peddi’ and ‘Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ taking over the screens, ‘Bandar’ could not get enough shows. On the first day, only 1,365 shows of Bobby Deol’s film were shown across the country. If reports are to be believed, it has been released only on 500-600 screens across the country. Because of this, the film’s reach to the general audience remained limited.
