The main accused in the Kerala Lottery Welfare Fund scam has confessed during interrogation that he burnt Rs 6 crore of the Rs 14 crore of the scam. He told that after the demonetization of 2016, he was not able to exchange the old notes, so he had to do so.
Thiruvananthapuram: The main accused in the Kerala Lottery Welfare Fund scam has made a shocking revelation during interrogation. He told, ‘After the 2016 demonetization, I was not able to use the money looted from the Lottery Welfare Fund. So I burnt notes worth Rs 6 crore.
Accused Sangeeth is accused of transferring about Rs 14 crore meant for the welfare of lottery workers to his account through fake signatures. Sangeeth, who appeared before the authorities for questioning, confessed, ‘I had withdrawn money in Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes from the Welfare Fund accounts just before demonetisation. When the central government banned the notes, I could not exchange them. So, in 2017, I burnt all the money in the house in Pongummodu.
Another fraud in the name of Kerala Lottery
Mangaluru: On the other hand, a case of fraud has come to light by a person from Suratkal by pretending to get the prize of Kerala Lottery. A case has been registered in this regard at Suratkal Police Station. According to the police, a 50-year-old man was viewing Facebook on his mobile on May 29. Then he saw an advertisement of Kerala Lottery, in which it was said that the draw would be held in the evening for a ticket of Rs 50. He called the number given in the advertisement and on the advice of an unknown person, selected two lottery ticket numbers and sent Rs 100 through the scanner.
In the evening, the same unknown person called and informed that there was a prize of Rs 12 lakh on one of his tickets. To send the reward money, he asked for Voter ID card, bank account number and IFSC code, which the person resident of Suratkal sent. After this, the fraudsters, on different pretexts, defrauded a total of Rs 1,85,636 from him in installments. When he realized the fraud, he lodged a complaint at Suratkal police station and demanded that the accused be caught and legal action be taken against them.
