Annamalai has separated from BJP and announced his new political organization ‘We The Leaders’. BJP has accepted his resignation, after which Annamalai announced that his organization will contest the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. He claimed that there were differences of opinion between him and the BJP leadership on many issues for the last 18 months. Annamalai said that he had informed the top leadership about his decision to leave the party in December 2025 itself and had also held detailed discussions with senior leaders before taking the final decision. Annamalai, who joined BJP in 2020, is now preparing to create a new political force in Tamil Nadu politics.
