Russia is not worried about India-America friendship
Vladimir Putin said that Russia does not view India’s better relations with any country from a negative perspective. He said that the increasing cooperation between India and America will not affect the relations between Moscow and New Delhi.
According to Putin, India is today among the fastest growing major economies of the world and its economic potential is continuously strengthening. This is the reason why big countries of the world want to further strengthen their relations with India.
“India will face American pressure”
The Russian President also mentioned America in his statement. He said that America has been trying to put pressure on India on many issues including cooperation with Russia, but he is confident that India will successfully counter such efforts.
Putin’s statement has come at a time when America is reviewing the relief from sanctions given to countries buying Russian oil. In such a situation, the energy relations between India and Russia have once again become a part of the global debate.
Target of 100 billion dollar business
The Russian President also made a big claim regarding the economic relations between the two countries. He expressed confidence that bilateral trade between India and Russia can reach the level of US$ 100 billion in the coming years.
In the last few years, cooperation between the two countries has increased rapidly in energy, defence, fertiliser, pharmaceuticals and technology sectors. Russia is one of India’s major energy partners, while India has become an important strategic market for Russia.
American stance on Russian oil increases discussion
Putin’s statement comes at a time when the US has indicated that it wants to end sanctions relief given to countries buying Russian oil.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said before the Senate Foreign Policy Committee that the US Treasury Department will take the final decision on relaxation of sanctions related to Russian oil. America had given temporary relief to some countries in March 2026, which was later extended twice. The last extension was given on May 17 for one month. India is among the major countries that benefited from this relaxation and continued purchasing Russian oil to maintain stable supply in the global energy market.
The world’s eyes on India’s foreign policy
Experts believe that India has strongly adopted the policy of ‘strategic autonomy’ in the last few years. India is trying to maintain strong relations with America, Russia, Europe, Middle East and Asian countries in parallel. Putin’s latest statement is being considered an indication that Russia sees India not just as a trading partner, but as a reliable and long-term strategic ally.
