Air India and Riyadh Air Join Hands to Expand Travel Options for Indians

Indian travellers could soon have more flight options to Saudi Arabia, the UK, Europe, and other international destinations as Air India and Riyadh Air move closer to a new partnership.

The two full-service airlines have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that lays the groundwork for future codeshare and interline agreements, subject to regulatory approval. For passengers, that could mean booking journeys across both airlines on a single ticket with easier connections through Delhi, Mumbai, and Riyadh.

What It Means for Indian Travellers

India is one of Riyadh Air’s top target markets, and the partnership could give travellers from major Indian cities access to a wider network beyond Saudi Arabia.

Once implemented, passengers may be able to:

  • Book combined Air India and Riyadh Air itineraries on one ticket.
  • Connect through Riyadh to destinations in the UK, Europe, and beyond.
  • Access future frequent flyer benefits across both airlines.
  • Enjoy smoother baggage transfers and transit experiences.

For Indian passport holders travelling for work, tourism, or family visits, Riyadh is quickly becoming an alternative transit hub alongside Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha.

Riyadh Air’s Growing Ambitions

The timing is no accident. Riyadh Air is preparing to launch its first flights to London Heathrow Airport on July 1 and is actively building partnerships ahead of its network expansion.

I’ve noticed a clear trend across Gulf aviation: airlines are racing to secure stronger links with India because demand keeps growing faster than many other international markets. This deal fits squarely into that pattern.

More Than Just Flights

Beyond passenger services, both carriers are also exploring cooperation in:

  • Loyalty programmes
  • Cargo operations
  • Technology initiatives
  • Operational support services

The move strengthens air links between the two countries that already share deep business, tourism, and cultural ties.

Travelobiz Take

We see this as a practical win for Indian travellers. More route choices, better connectivity through Riyadh, and potential loyalty benefits make the partnership worth watching closely.
