Kia Carnival Hybrid Debuts In India – More Powerful Motor Than Sorento

Kia has showcased upcoming Carnival Hybrid in India for the first time, While prices have not been announced yet, Kia has confirmed key specifications of the strong-hybrid powertrain. Carnival Hybrid is expected to be launched in India in the coming weeks.

1.6L Turbo Hybrid With More Powerful Electric Motor

Carnival Hybrid uses a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 180 PS and 265 Nm. While the engine is shared with Sorento Hybrid, Carnival gets a more powerful electric motor producing 73.4 PS and 304 Nm.

Compared to Sorento’s electric motor, the Carnival unit produces 8.4 PS and 40 Nm more. Kia has not yet disclosed the combined system output for the India-spec Carnival Hybrid. The powertrain is expected to use a 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission, although further specifications are awaited.

For comparison, the existing Carnival diesel uses a 2.2-litre engine producing 190 PS and 441 Nm. It is paired with an 8-speed torque-converter automatic and sends power to the front wheels. This is the same engine which is also on offer with new Sorento.

Carnival Hybrid Features

Visually, Carnival Hybrid remains largely identical to the diesel-powered version already sold in India. The same applies to the cabin and major equipment. Key features include twin 12.3-inch screens for infotainment and instrumentation, three-zone climate control and a 12-speaker Bose audio system. Powered front seats with ventilation and heating are also available.

On the safety front, Carnival gets eight airbags, Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera and disc brakes at all four wheels. The India-spec diesel Carnival is currently offered only in the fully loaded Limousine Plus configuration.

Kia Expanding Hybrid Lineup In India

Carnival Hybrid forms part of Kia’s broader electrification strategy for India. At its 2026 CEO Investor Day, the company outlined plans to introduce eight electrified vehicles in the country, with models including Sonet Hybrid, Carens Hybrid, Seltos Hybrid, etc.

Sorento has already been launched with diesel and strong-hybrid powertrains, with the latter priced from Rs 29.49 lakh. Carnival Hybrid be launched soon. Current Carnival diesel is priced at Rs 59.65 lakh ex-showroom. Kia has not announced pricing for Carnival Hybrid yet. However, considering Sorento Hybrid commands a premium of around Rs 1.5 lakh over comparable diesel variants, Carnival Hybrid could potentially be positioned at around Rs 62 lakh. Final pricing will be revealed closer to launch.
