Music composer and singer Akhil Sachdeva has revealed that he deliberately used the lower register of his voice while creating ‘Piya Ghar Aaya – Homecoming’ from Emraan Hashmi-starrer Awarapan 2, aiming to bring a sense of heroism and star power to the song.
Speaking to IANS in Mumbai after the film’s release, Sachdeva said the composition was driven primarily by his instinct and the emotion he wanted the song to evoke.
“Whatever comes from my heart naturally, that’s the song that I write. I never take anyone else’s opinion on that unless a producer or a director tells me to change that,” he said.
Describing the song as a blend of Hindi and Punjabi, Sachdeva said its central emotion was built around “heroism and a superstar”. His approach, he explained, was to imagine how he would react if Hashmi appeared in front of him at that very moment.
“I thought of myself as a fan while composing the song,” Sachdeva said. He recalled watching Hashmi’s films around 15 years ago, before he became a musician, and said he wanted to capture the emotion the actor had created among millions of fans.
Sachdeva said Punjabi came naturally to him and suited his musical style, which influenced how he presented the track.
He also expressed appreciation for the makers for retaining the song without changing any of its words. The composer said he followed his instincts while selecting the scale, specifically choosing one that allowed him to use his lower register.
“I wanted to sing it in a different way,” he said, describing the song’s essence as intimate and haunting, with an ability to hold and connect with the listener.
Sachdeva added that he wanted the track to retain that quality while allowing his own vocal character to come through.
