Late actor Rishi Kapoor once recalled a humorous incident from the shooting of his 1976 film Barood, when his loud singing during a song sequence in Paris left local onlookers puzzled.
During an appearance on The Kapil Sharma Show, Rishi spoke about his habit of singing romantic songs at full volume while shooting, even though he admitted he was not particularly tuneful.
Recalling the Barood shoot, he said he was performing a sequence in Paris in which he followed actress Shoma Anand, with a sound recordist positioned several steps behind him.
“I remember one day I was shooting a song for ‘Barood’ in Paris. I was following Shoma Anand in the sequence, and there was a sound recordist 25 steps behind me. I was feeling so embarrassed,” Rishi recalled.
He said the situation became amusing because the Parisians could see him walking behind Anand and singing loudly while the song was being played from behind.
“As the sound and camera started, I used to do the action, and all the Parisians used to look at me, thinking, ‘What is wrong with this man? The song is playing from behind, and he is singing,’” he said.
Directed by Pramod Chakravorty, Barood featured Ashok Kumar, Shoma Anand, Ajit and Reena Roy in key roles, while Dharmendra and Hema Malini made guest appearances. The screenplay was written by Sachin Bhowmick and the dialogues by Ahsan Rizvi.
Rishi Kapoor went on to become one of Hindi cinema’s most recognised actors, appearing in films including Rafoo Chakkar, Besharam, Kabhi Kabhie, Zinda Dil, Amar Akbar Anthony, Anjaane Mein, Dhan Daulat, Khel Khel Mein and Do Dooni Chaar.
Rishi Kapoor died on April 30, 2020, aged 67, after battling leukemia.
His final film, Sharmaji Namkeen, remained incomplete following his death. Paresh Rawal later stepped in to complete the remaining portions.
