India’s Sanjana Sirimalla won a silver medal in the Women’s Doubles 4.5 category at the in Da Nang, Vietnam on the opening day of the tournament on August 30.
Sanjana, pairing up with Argentina’s Sofia Andino, made a runner-up finish in the tournament.
This was India’s fifth silver medal at the World Cup. With players competing across age groups and skill categories, India has already made its presence felt on the opening day, taking their tally to seven medals.
For Sanjana, the podium finish is a significant achievement on the international stage. Partnering with Andino, she negotiated her way through the competition to reach the title clash and finish among the leading players in the Women’s Doubles 4.5 category.
The cross-national partnership with Andino also adds an interesting dimension to Sanjana’s campaign. The duo combined to make a deep run in the tournament, eventually finishing second and securing silver.
Sanjana’s result is another boost for the Indian contingent, which is looking to build on its strong debut at the Pickleball World Cup in 2025. India won 25 medals at the previous edition in the United States, including eight gold, eight silver and nine bronze.
The opening-day medal in Da Nang further strengthens India’s challenge at the 2026 World Cup, which is being held in Asia for the first time.
For Sanjana, the silver provides a strong platform as India’s campaign gathers pace in Vietnam. With competition continuing across multiple categories, the Indian contingent will look to add more medals to its tally in the days ahead.
Sanjana’s runner-up finish also highlights the increasingly international nature of pickleball, with players from different countries joining forces and competing together on the sport’s biggest stage.
