Mumbai Indians, already out of the race for the playoffs in IPL 2026, took the field against Rajasthan Royals in their last match of this season. Mumbai Indians, playing at their home ground Wankhede Stadium, won the toss and decided to bowl first. But for this match, the team’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah did not get a place in the playing-11. Mumbai Indians took this decision so that Bumrah could get rest. With this, Jasprit Bumrah’s worst IPL season after 12 years also ended.
What did Hardik say about Bumrah?
A major change was made in Mumbai’s playing-11 for this match against Rajasthan at Wankhede Stadium. Captain Hardik Pandya announced that fast bowler Deepak Chahar, who made an impact with his swing, was called back into the team for this match. Here he replaced veteran pacer Bumrah, about whom Hardik told that he has been rested for this match. This was done because this season was not good for Bumrah and Mumbai was not going to get any benefit from playing him in this match.
Worst season of Bumrah’s IPL career
But its effect was that Bumrah ended IPL 2026 with the worst season of his IPL career. Veteran fast bowler Bumrah made his debut in IPL 2013 but this was the first time that he played more than 10 matches and could not take even 5 wickets. Bumrah could take only 4 wickets after playing 13 matches this season. Earlier in IPL 2014, he had played 11 matches and taken 5 wickets.
Not only this, Bumrah’s bowling average this season was 102.50, which is the worst in his entire IPL career. Earlier in IPL 2015, his average was 61.33 but then he played only 4 matches and took 3 wickets. Apart from this, the strike rate of the star pacer was 73.5 and this is also the worst figure of his entire IPL career. Overall, Bumrah did not look his best this season and due to this, Mumbai Indians also had to look for a way out even before the playoffs.
