Delhi: Tihar Jail Inmate Accused Of Killing His Extramarital Partner Found Hanging In Hospital Ward

A 43-year-old undertrial inmate at Delhi’s Tihar Jail, accused of murdering his extramarital partner, was found hanging inside the jail hospital, officials confirmed Tuesday.

The incident took place in the hospital facility of Jail Number 3, where he had been undergoing treatment for health issues since late May.

The deceased has been identified as Ramesh Karmakar, who was lodged in Jail Number 4 and was admitted to the hospital on May 28 after he complained of dizziness, ear pain, and hearing problems. He was also being treated by specialists at GB Pant Hospital’s neurology department and the ENT unit of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.

Karmakar, who previously worked in housekeeping roles at hotels and restaurants, was arrested on April 22. According to Delhi Police, he had allegedly killed his partner after she threatened to reveal their affair to his wife.

On the night of July 13, jail staff discovered his body hanging from a window inside the medical facility. Authorities were informed the following morning. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to the incident.
