A 19-year-old student has died by suicide after jumping in front of a train in Kollam. The girl, Abhirami, also known as Aami, was the daughter of Vijayan and Pushpa of Vijaya Bhavan, Puthen Nada, in Karuvelil. She was found dead on the tracks.

Abhirami had left her home in the morning, telling her family she was going to class. Many people spotted her near the railway tracks near Nedumpayikulam and the St. George Orthodox Church, and felt something was wrong. When some of them tried to ask her what was happening, she reportedly gave confusing answers and even shouted at them.

According to local residents, she jumped in front of the train at around 10:30 AM. A couple of people even ran to stop her, but she refused to listen. She threw her bag aside and jumped onto the tracks just as the train was approaching.

The Ezhukone police have completed the inquest procedures. Her body has been sent to the Paripally Medical College mortuary for a post-mortem.
