Actor Sonam Kapoor will make her return to films after dedicating the past few years to motherhood and family life following the birth of her son, Vayu.
The actor, known for choosing roles with strong, layered female characters, said her comeback will focus on projects that resonate with her vision and allow her to explore meaningful stories on screen.
Speaking about her journey, Sonam told Times of India, “I became a mother and wanted to give it as much time as possible – so that I could witness the process of seeing my son grow up. I wanted to enjoy the feeling of being a mother and it has been the most rewarding experience of my life.”
Her return to acting, she added, isn’t just about being back in front of the camera. “Now, I will be back to doing what I love doing – acting. I’m being drawn to disruptive subjects that allow me to shine. I have always tried to pick projects with the girl at the heart of the story and that vision hasn’t changed. I want to do projects where the role of the woman is layered and not unidimensional. I’m excited to come back in front of the camera and my first project post-pregnancy will roll out in the last quarter of 2025,” Sonam shared.
Sonam made her Bollywood debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Saawariya’ (2007) and has since balanced commercial hits with critically acclaimed films. After ‘The Zoya Factor’ in 2019, she took a break before returning in 2023 with ‘Blind’, a crime-thriller directed by Shome Makhija and produced by Sujoy Ghosh, which was a remake of the Korean film of the same name.
Looking ahead, Sonam will be seen in ‘Battle for Bittora’, an adaptation of Anuja Chauhan’s popular novel. Her highly anticipated post-pregnancy project is expected to begin filming later this year.
