Volkswagen has been working on a new compact SUV, following the massive success that the Kylaq has achieved. And now, it has been confirmed that a new VW compact SUV will be introduced in India. Volkswagen India has now received approval for this project, which has been estimated to cost around Rs 275 crore. That said, let’s take a look at what this upcoming SUV will have to offer.
New Volkswagen Compact SUV

Skoda Auto and Volkswagen India Private Limited have been offering impressive products, aimed towards the massive Indian market until now. The Kushaq-Taigun and Slavia-Virtus have been the two siblings from the two brands. However, Skoda’s most successful product has proven to be the Kylaq, bringing in the most sales. And now, it looks like VW wants a slice of that cake, as the launch of its own Kylaq-based SUV has been confirmed.
In the Brazilian market, Volkswagen has a compact SUV on sale, the Terra, and it is likely that the India-bound version could look quite similar to that. Moreover, this compact SUV will share most of its components with the Skoda Kylaq. As of yet, VW has not retired the Polo nameplate in India, and it is possible that the new compact SUV could receive this legendary nameplate. But can this SUV keep up to the pedigree of the Polo?
What To Expect?

Better late than never, right? Well, we believe this will apply to this upcoming VW SUV. Witnessing the success of the Kylaq, VW wants in on it, and what better way to do it than use the legendary Polo nameplate. With the striking design, German build quality, and the fun-to-drive experience, this VW SUV is likely to have it all. This upcoming SUV is likely to get features like a 10-inch touchscreen, 8-inch instrument cluster, powered and ventilated front seats, an electric sunroof, and a few more.
We could expect to see a few additional features like a 360-degree camera, front parking sensors, and a few more. Powering the SUV will likely be the same 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine producing 114bhp and 178Nm of torque along with either a 6-speed MT or 8-speed TC. Volkswagen India could price this SUV between Rs 9 lakh and Rs 16 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). We expect the VW SUV to be launched in 2027.
