VW has officially confirmed the launch of an all-new made-in-India SUV. Volkswagen India has received approval for this project, estimated to cost around Rs. 275 crore. That said, here’s what this upcoming SUV will offer.
New Volkswagen SUV Coming To India
The Kushaq-Taigun and Slavia-Virtus recently turned it around for both Skoda and VW in India. However, Skoda’s most successful product has been the Kylaq, which brought in the highest sales right from launch. Now, it looks like VW wants a piece of this success by launching its badge-engineered version of the Kylaq.
In Brazil, Volkswagen sells the Tera sub-compact SUV (under four metres), the closest to the Kylaq in size. The India-bound model could look similar. However, this new SUV will share most components and its MQB-A0-IN platform with the Kylaq. Rumours suggest this compact SUV could bring back the Polo nameplate.
What To Expect?
VW wants to replicate the success of the Kylaq, and what better way than to bring back the legendary Polo nameplate? Expect this SUV to offer a striking design, signature German build quality, and a fun-to-drive experience. It could get features like a 10-inch touchscreen, an eight-inch instrument cluster, powered and ventilated front seats, and an electric sunroof. Additional features like a 360-degree camera, front parking sensors, and more are expected.
The VW SUV will use the same 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine as the Kylaq, producing 114 bhp and 178 Nm of torque. Gearbox options will be a 6-speed manual and the VW Group’s new 8-speed torque converter (yet to debut on the Kylaq). Volkswagen India could price this SUV between Rs. 9 lakh and Rs. 16 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). It will be launched in 2027.
