Deepak Tijori himself was a part of the film ‘Ghulam’. Recently, in a conversation with Bollywood Bubble, he recalled this incident and explained why Mahesh Bhatt refused to do this film and left the film.
Deepak Tijori told that Mahesh Bhatt was initially directing the film ‘Ghulam’, but he left the film. Deepak said, “I came to know that Bhatt sahab has left ‘Ghulam’, he said, Main nahi kar sakta, main Aamir ko nahi jhel sakta. He said the film was already being made for two years and during this time, Mahesh Bhatt decided to back out. After this, director Vikram Bhatt took charge and completed the film after 2 years, i.e., the film took 4 years to be made.”

Earlier, in an old interview with Screen, Mahesh Bhatt himself had told that he told Aamir Khan, “Films are not so important to me that I can give my whole life to them. If I say so, I would be lying.” In an interview with Radio Nasha, Mahesh Bhatt also said that once Aamir had discussed his hat in ‘Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin’ for 10 hours .
In another interview shared on the YouTube channel of Wild Films India, Mahesh Bhatt also said, “Working on Ghulam was not a good experience for me, especially when a person is burdened by his greatness, then that burden is also felt by those working with him. In such a situation, making a film in a limited budget becomes more difficult.”
