The family members of the deceased have refused to consider it a suicide and have accused the husband and in-laws of murdering her for dowry. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case and started investigation.

According to the police, the incident took place in Jhabbaran Kala Fatak area of Saadatganj police station area. The deceased was living here with her husband and in-laws. After receiving information about his death under suspicious circumstances on Saturday, local police reached the spot. Within some time, the forensic team also reached the spot and the process of collecting evidence was started. The police have taken the body into their custody and sent it for post-mortem, so that the actual cause of death can be ascertained.

Family members made serious allegations
As soon as information about the incident was received, the family members of the deceased reached Lucknow from Kanpur. Family members allege that their daughter was being continuously harassed for dowry after marriage. The deceased’s uncle Sunil Verma, a resident of Bagahi TP Nagar area of Kanpur, told in the complaint given to the police that the girl was married to Sagar Rajput on December 9, 2025.
Family members claim that shortly after the marriage, she started being harassed mentally and physically by demanding a car and additional dowry.
‘When he couldn’t find a car, he took his daughter’s life’
The family alleges that due to non-fulfillment of dowry demand, the in-laws murdered the girl on May 30 and hanged the body to make the case look like suicide. However, police say that the cause of death can be confirmed only after the post-mortem report and forensic investigation. At present the matter is being investigated keeping all aspects in mind.
Police searching for husband and in-laws
Based on the complaint of the family members, the police have registered a case under relevant serious sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) and Dowry Prohibition Act. According to officials, the deceased’s husband and some other in-laws have fled the house after the incident. Special police teams have been formed for their arrest. Police say that the accused will be arrested soon and further legal action will be taken.
