New Delhi [भारत]July 30 (ANI): Indian Air Force Officer-in-Charge (Maintenance) Air Marshal Sanjeev Ghuretia on Thursday highlighted the importance of collaboration between the armed forces, defense industry, research organizations and certification agencies to build a strong and self-reliant aerospace ecosystem in India.
Addressing a workshop organized by the Indian Air Force and the Society of Indian Defense Manufacturers (SIDM), Air Marshal Ghuretia said the future of India’s aerospace capability cannot be achieved by any single organization working independently, but through collective efforts, knowledge sharing, trust and a shared national vision. He expressed his gratitude to the Minister of State for Defense for supporting the initiatives aimed at developing a strong indigenous defense manufacturing ecosystem and said that such efforts are helping translate the vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ into operational capabilities.
Goal of self-reliance through ‘Sankalp’
Speaking on the seminar’s theme ‘Resolve’, Air Marshal Ghuretia said the word represents determination and collective commitment towards self-reliance, indigenous development and knowledge-based partnerships – the foundation of India’s future aerospace development. He stressed that self-reliance in defense cannot be achieved without indigenous technology development, while indigenous innovation requires strong partnerships between industry, academia, research institutions, certification bodies and the armed forces.
Changing strategy and strategic risks
Highlighting the changing nature of warfare, Air Marshal Ghuretia said emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Predictive Maintenance, Quantum Technology and Cyber Resilience are already shaping modern military capabilities. He cautioned that reliance on external supply chains for critical defense technologies poses a strategic risk, and said self-reliance in aerospace has become a national security necessity rather than simply a developmental goal.
‘Excellence in Duty’ Our Guiding Principle
Referring to the teachings of Srimad Bhagavad Gita, Air Marshal Ghuretiya said that excellence in duty remains a guiding principle and for the Indian Air Force, excellence is reflected through operational readiness, engineering precision and continuous innovation. He acknowledged the significant progress made by India’s defense manufacturing sector over the past decade, but said challenges remain in achieving full technological independence.
He said, “Strategic capability cannot always be measured through traditional business parameters. Some technologies must be developed because they are essential to national security, not simply because of market demand.”
Achieving technical sovereignty is a big challenge
Air Marshal Ghurtia highlighted that global aerospace progress has shown that major technological breakthroughs happen when governments, defense forces, industries and research institutions work together with a common strategic objective. He said India has all the necessary components to build a strong indigenous defense ecosystem and the main challenge now is to integrate these capabilities into an integrated framework to achieve technological sovereignty.
